Scarf Details

Zellige is a type of tiling found in the Alcazar of Seville, Spain.

The word zellij means ‘little stones’ in Arabic and the mosaic is made from hand-cut ceramic pieces, which are individually placed on a cement base.

The original design for this type of tiling was a simple geometric pattern inspired by Arabic calligraphy.

This neckerchief is made of natural habotai silk, a type of silk that is very fine and glossy and soft to the touch. It is dyed with a high concentration of indigo, which gives it a deep blue color.

The border pattern was selected to begin and end with this type of tiling, which allows for more detail in the design when it is replicated across the border.

Finely Crafted

Our silk scarves are finished with the artisan technique of hand-rolling and hand-stitching with invisible stitches. This gives it an accentuated luxurious look and feel.

Habotai Silk

For the creation of this scarf we have chosen Habotai silk. It is a very light and fine silk, which allows the design to be seen with the same colour intensity on both sides of the scarf. Durable, very pleasant to the touch and to wear, this type of silk makes the scarf a very versatile accessory to wear.

Islamic Art Inspiration

The patterns that make up Islamic Art are inspired by the tiles that decorate the monuments of Arabic origin in southern Spain and northern Morocco. Infinite shapes created from tiles cut by hand centuries ago.
